Thailand has introduced new requirements for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), effective August 31, 2026.
Under the revised rules, applicants must now provide proof of permanent residence in the country or territory where the DTV application is submitted. This replaces the previous requirement to simply show evidence of current location.
Applicants must also provide a criminal-record clearance certificate issued by their country of nationality or permanent residence.
The changes are especially important for freelancers, digital nomads and remote workers living abroad on temporary visas. For example, applicants in the UK on short-term study, graduate or job-seeker visas may no longer qualify to file through London and may need to apply from their country of nationality or permanent residence instead.
Prospective DTV applicants should confirm filing-jurisdiction requirements before submitting an application.
